Early on in the alpha importing maps I would of said was best done clean, the tools seem more stable now, so I have converted partly a map over, in this video you can see how you can replace models.

note if a model you replace by default is not on the same x y z you may need to rotate them, if you have lots of models this could take some time and you may be better deleting them and doing it again
