Brandin Podziemski trainer Dustin Van Lieu @coachdjv on BPodz development: Live chat/commentary/PVO!
#BrandinPodziemski #Podziemski #Warriors\n\nTOPICS & TIMESTAMPS:\n0:00 warming up the audience, background on who our guest is
5:45 do I see TJD getting any mins? In short, no. Our center rotation is currently Loon, Saric, Dray -- it's harder to get mins that way and when you do get mins, you have to really shine (reference JK, BPodz), as long as you can have JK as the super backup 5 in a pinch, then why not have TJD accumulate some 0.5 basketball reps down in Santa Cruz? I think it's mostly dependent on circumstances (injuries, etc) so you never know
11:00 PACKIE TURNER IN THE COMMENTS!!! A little WNBA talk
14:45 Dustin Van Lieu comes on!!!
16:30 BPodz reached out in November, averaged a 30-pt double-double, can you help me with my defense? Didn't care about the stats.
17:45 BP always looking for competitive advantage, heard DVL talk with Drew Hanlen, only trainer talking about defense
18:45 containment, 8-foot radius, nearest help, dictate that line of containment
23:00 broke down his stats, 19% lower attacking right, on 3s top of the key and right wing (vs Pacific in January)
24:30 on how Dustin found the analytics
29:00 on if BPodz really played that poorly: still displayed leadership, turned the ball over a little bit but taking risks, timing, saw the floor extremely well, rebounded well (39" vertical), knack for the basketball, trickle down effect from shooting poorly (start passing shots to get downhill, passiveness when not shooting to your standards)
31:00 BPodz knew all the outside noise, his expectations was higher than any of us, "let's go to the gym" after the missed layup at Summer League, personality, did a lot of film (how he was shooting at SCU, base, elbow)
34:00 on BPodz being comfortable with who he is, 2am 3am phone calls looking at film, asking for O and D breakdowns going into Friday's game, probably comes from his dad, good combo of both mom and dad (extroverted one)
36:00 8th grade is when BP started, baseball felt too easy
37:00 finishing at the rim was a result of inefficient shooting, rhythm and flow, putting the ball up higher than he was used to, pulling his elbow back a lot, working with Steph and Brandon in finishing through
38:00 on BPodz 3s, made adjustments (Jan was high 40%, narrow on base, wider base)
42:00 on being in the same gym as Steph: landed in the perfect spot, BP did that the night that Steph did it, goes into the gym right away
44:45 he's gonna talk about what he's seeing, just confidence
45:45 when BP has challenged Dustin, "How do I do that?"
47:45 he earns trust, takes constructive criticism, seeking advice, applying it
49:00 on not shuffling feet, knowing when to be physical, best defensive drills for teens: give advantage but establish restrictions (bodies, cones), restricted/condensed 1v1 actions
51:00 get a good sample size later in season with BP, staying mentally fresh
52:45 on post entry passes, disappearing in the game (Jokic/Embiid getting more touches), but pass through contact is a lost art, manipulate the defender
54:00 on deflections: active hands, active feet, anticipating zoom action, instincts
56:00 on presence/Warriors and Dustin watching his first live Santa Clara game, trying to win every single possession, from making a good screen, motor/competitiveness
58:00 BP was No. 2 pick based on advanced analytics (intangibles)\n1:02:30 Cory Joseph may or may not play Friday
1:06:45 Kerr said yesterday that JK should be ok by Friday, but who really knows except them lol\n[See Comments and website https://letsgowarriors.com for continuation of timestamps]\n\nNext livestream: Fri Oct 13th for GSW at LA Lakers at 6:45PM PDT for 7pm tipoff!
