Building Gill Lapis - Giving Up and Final Thoughts - TMS Meta
I'm giving up on building Gill Lapis, but I have learned a lot and leave you with the following notes:
- Gill Lapis does not provide a constructive benefit on his ruler side. He provides a lot of utility and power on his j-ruler side. An ideal Gill Lapis deck can either put on early pressure followed by judgment to secure a dominating board state or control the board and then establish massive advantage in the midgame after judgment.
- Early judgment on Gill Lapis is often a waste of a turn unless backed by board pressure. In my games against Gill Lapis, I have often forced a flip back by using Space-Time Anomaly before and after recover, making my opponent sac a Globe and waste his entire previous turn.
- Pitch Black Moon works well in a deck with a decent resonator count (18+). Otherwise, it will be difficult to utilize Pitch Black Moon effectively.
- Gill Lapis works well with hard-to-remove threats such as Arthur Pendragon, a resonator most deal with through Refrain bounce. Gill Lapis's ability to counter Refrain pays off in a long game, but the problem is getting there without getting overrun on the board beforehand or dying to Split Heaven and Earth in the mid- or late-game (assuming a 3+ color deck).
