Call of Duty 4 in 2022
337Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare released on November 6, 2007 for PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii and sold more than 7 million copies within the first 2 months. Call of Duty was back, and the now-classic "arcade FPS formula" had been perfected.
CoD4 brings back memories of heated Xbox Live voice chat, prestige lobbies, headshot boosters in Cage Match, pleading for teammates to play the objective, and the easy-to-backpack gameplay loop that kept me clicking heads into the late hours of the night.
So how IS Call of Duty 4 in 2022? Well, if you're playing on PC, it's pretty great thanks to the COD4X mod (aka COD4i). In this love letter to the original Modern Warfare let's discuss what CoD4:MW did right, what it meant for the time, how to best play it and how to install COD4X for yourself, and why I still go back to this game every year since launch.
