Can PCSX2 handle PS1 games?

6I tried to play PS1 games on this PS2 emulator.
All emulator settings are stock.
Game 1: Air Combat - Video played but graphics was glitchy, crashed as soon as I pressed start.
Game 2: Armored Core - Video played but graphics was glitchy, managed to get through the first scenario just fine. Again glitchy graphics.
