Diablo 3 is one of those games that is, like Borderlands, all about loot. Constantly getting new gear to make your character stronger, more powerful, and able to do more damage as you take on tougher foes. But what if you wanted to, for no reason, take a crucial element out of the game. Can You Beat Diablo 3 Without Using Any Weapons?

Can You Beat Diablo 3 Without Using Any Weapons? (in text form)

To keep this simple for those of you watching who can’t understand what big words mean, when I say “beat”, I’m referring to defeating Diablo 3 himself. Completing the story of Diablo 3 with no weapons. The first and really the only choice you’ll have to make is what class to play as. They’re all perfectly valid and can still attack enemies with no weapons equipped, so the choice really just comes down to how you want to play the game, whether you want to be an up-close brawler or if you’d rather sit back and summon undead minions to do your bidding. I went with the Barbarian because I remember what most of their skills are and I prefer them over the more magic-based classes. I named myself Alfonso, I know Alfonso is commonly used as a woman’s name, but if you’ve noticed I don’t have an anime profile picture so it wouldn’t make sense for my character to be a woman if I’m a man.

The only remaining decision that must be made is regarding the difficulty. Easiest mode available is what I went with, you probably knew that was going to happen. From there, the journey begins. The Undead Risen went down easily enough, a whack here, a backhand across their rotting chest cavity there, and they’re done. I leveled up, entered New Tristram, and bought the armor I could from a merchant. You might notice that I’ve got some 2,000,000 gold on my person. Gold exists across all characters, I don’t know if it applies to Hardcore characters but that’s not really relevant. I have somewhere around 150 hours in the game, which is why I have that amount of gold and could buy armor like it was nothing. If you consider that to be cheating or unfair, well, get your drool bucket ready because you’re gonna have a ing aneurysm after you see what other ideas I pull outta my head.

The current task at hand is to eliminate the Wretched Queen in the old ruins. Her baby maker is pumping out undead at unfathomable speeds and the local economy just can’t handle that stress, especially in these trying times. In the early game, most enemies aren’t much of a threat. They’re slower than an unconscious sloth and attack rather slowly. If you’ve never played Diablo 3, here’s a kindergarten level explanation of how combat works, at least for the Barbarian. Most skills have a cool down period and cost fury to use. Fury is generated by attacking enemies. But your base attack, Cleave in my case at the moment, costs nothing to use and is only limited by the time it takes to attack. All skills also have a series of runes that you unlock as you level up that add some sort of effect to the skill. Skills can also be made deadlier through enchantments on armor or weapons. With the Wretched Queen dead, I returned to New Tristram and activated my trap card, the only reason I attempted this challenge in the first place: Gems.
