My second and counting online match for CVS2 via Fightcade2. I'm definitely still new and scrubby, but I'm really stoked about the game at this early stage. It gives me a very similar feeling of satisfaction to my all time favorite fighting game 3rd Strike, which is no small feat to put it lightly. I was really disappointed by how much I couldn't connect with SF6 on multiple levels, but this… this is essentially everything I look for in a fighting game.

It is a beautiful game, with a near perfect learning curve, thanks to no single action seeming prohibitively difficult to perform, but always demanding some degree of care and precision be paid to your execution if you wish to so much as competent at the game. This allows for every combo, parry, just defend, guard cancel, and much more if you can believe it, to feel much more rewarding to accomplish than what’s available in the sea of more recent fighting game releases.

This element is made all the better, thanks to the amazing “Groove system”, in which you select from one of six pre-match options, that dictate what special actions your character can perform(air blocking, custom combo activation, dodging, rolling etc). While some are undoubtedly stronger than others, they all feel fun and well realized within the game. Half of the grooves represent mechanics present In Capcom offerings (CAP) and half from SNK’s flagship fighters (SNK…if you couldn’t guess).

In summation, I am absolutely loving this game and can’t recommend it enough to players that may be feeling disenchanted by many of the modern fighting available to play these days. I simply cannot wait until September when I can play this, along with 3rd Strike, in an offline arcade setting at Summer Jam 2023.
