Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow Playthrough (Direct DS Capture) - Part 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the DS. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my New 3DS XL using the aftermarket capture kit manufactured by Katsukity and installed/sold by Merki.
I decided to replace my prior playthrough of this game to get rid of the annoying stuttering issue from before. Hopefully the gameplay is a little better as well.
I received Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for Christmas of 2005 and it was basically my only big game for that holiday season. There were no new GameCube games that I wanted that year, so the DS had to carry the torch for me.
Prior to this I had played all three Castlevania games on the Game Boy Advance and I was generally very impressed with their designs. Dawn of Sorrow seemed like it would just be more of Aria of Sorrow without any major changes, and I was actually OK with that.
It's difficult to say, but Dawn of Sorrow may be the best of the three Castlevania titles on the DS. The soul weapon fusion system is interesting (although the grinding can get annoying) and the boss fights are generally excellent (but sometimes confusing).
However, I feel that the touch screen controls were shoehorned into the game. The seal mechanic in particular sucks because you only have a few seconds during a boss fight to draw a specific pattern and it's really easy to mess up, which causes the fight to continue longer. But putting aside those minor complaints, the castle has a pretty good design and the music isn't too bad either.
In this first part I started a new save file, explored the Lost Village area, and obtained the Flying Armor soul, which gave me a slow fall ability.
