Recap: Chocobo and his friend Mog explore a dungeon seeking treasure. A few floors in, Mog flips a switch that somehow ejects Chocobo out of the dungeon, and he wakes up in a bed, being tended by a white mage named Shiroma. As Chocobo returns to the dungeon to find Mog, he sees Shiroma and her friend Chubby Chocobo also on their way in. The two get split up, and Chocobo ends up teaming with Shiroma for the rest of the dungeon.

The two catch up to Mog just as he's about to enter a treasure room. Shiroma warns him against it, but Mog goes in anyway, finding a giant crystal inside. Attempting to take the crystal results in the entire dungeon sinking to the bottom of the ocean, and Shiroma's house along with it. The three head to the nearby village, where Shiroma fortunately has a second home. Humans aren't very welcome in the village, so Mog chooses to stay with a friendly bomb, leaving Shiroma on her own. The only other human around is an old man living in a tower on the outskirts of the village.

Mog hears a rumor that the old man was working on a submarine, and asks Chocobo to track him down and see if they can use it to get back to the sunken dungeon. The old man is named Cid, and Chocobo catches him in the process of trying to to reclaim his tower from invading monsters. Cid agrees to return the favor if Chocobo comes along and helps him clear out the monsters to get his tower back.
