City of Heroes 2019 - Ep. 16 - The Day Your Arachnos Soldier Becomes a Bane
30City of Villains time! One of my favorite characters to play on the Live game years ago was a VEAT (Villain Epic Archetype) that I called Bwana Devil. VEATS come in 2 groups, Soldiers of Arachnos and Night Widows. Back in the day, you needed to take a villain character up to level 50 before you were able to create a VEAT. Now, however, you can create one anytime.
When you create a Soldier, you'll be given a franken-gun, which is a combination rifle, shotgun, machine gun and grenade launcher, and you must fight as a "Huntsman" through level 24. Once you hit level 24, you can choose to keep going as a gun-toting Huntsman, switch to a Crab Spider (complete with a spider backpack whose 8 legs shoot bullets) or a Bane (wielding a wicked Mace).
I prefer the melee-focused, mace-wielding Bane. With Cloaking Device active, he's like a buffed up Stalker. In this episode, I'll take you through the respec process, turning my Huntsman into a Bane, my slotting of generic IOs in my enhancement slots, and complete a (simple) mission.
In the next episode, I'll take Bwana Devil out on a mission that better shows off his capabilities.
NOTE: Yes, I took the Medicine Pool powers on Bwana Devil. I may keep them, or I may switch them out later. I just like the added protection of a heal when my alt is still relatively low-level.
