With the demise of Imran Zakhaev only strengthening the ultra nationalist grip on Russia further escalating tensions between the world superpowers in an effort to spark a third world war, Zakhaev right hand man Vladmir Makarov, begins a campaign against the entire world by committing brutal acts of terrorism and stages a terriorist attack against Russian civilians at an airport and then frames an undercover American operative convencing the Russians to launch a massive retaliatory invasion of the United States, Meanwhile the British Spec Ops unit (where we see Soap MacTavish being promoted to Captain) travels across the globe to discover the truth about the incident.
