Ah, at last, the legendary "Hell March". This is a tune I've been wanting to cover for almost three years now! Special thanks to Novaseer for requesting this one.

I had always held off on this one because I didn't feel like I could do it justice back then. I always told myself I'd wait much later when my tone and sound became better suited for it.

So here we are now, in the midst of my new experimental phase, changing up my audio recording & mixing process. Carrying over some of the techniques I used in my "Alect Squadron" cover, as well as some tricks to make the snare drum sound punchier this time around.

I must say, I'm glad I held off on this one until now. I had an absolute blast working on it. Nothing too flashy or fancy for this cover, just some good ol' kickass hard rock (as it should be).

I was also quite tempted to do the electronic part from the original. However, I decided against it, for now. I'll save that as a whole other cover for another time. I need to learn some more things and try experimenting with a sort of "dark industrial" kind of sound. Until then, the "industrial" cover of this track will have to wait.

On a sidenote, here's some trivia for you guys. Rather than looking around for some "marching" samples, I figured I'd try a trick that Bobby Prince once used for DOOM II's "Evil Incarnate". Yep, I used the "gunshot" sound from general midi (I also ran it through some reverb though).

Also, man, it sure feels like its been quite a while since I last got in front of the camera to do the guitar dance! I was actually planning to have a bit more gameplay footage, as well as some footage from replays I saved from OpenRA. However, OpenRA and my recording software goofed up on me twice, and I wound up with half an hour's worth of nothing but a black screen. So, in the interest of time, I only worked with footage I recorded from the first soviet level from the original Red Alert.

Anyways, I really love this song, it's my go-to track whenever I'm playing any strategy game and am about to launch a big offensive. So with that being said, I hope you all enjoy the cover, and also wish you all well on your future conquests [while listening to this, of course] =)! ~DAR
