For this texture I used Photoshop (any version will do) and Crazybump. I also tested in Maya out of habit, but didn't really do anything within Maya itself. Then I test the texture, specularity, and normal map on the Second Life beta grid on a normal prim cube.

This version of the video is sped up by 500%, squeezing 45 minutes of work into a faster vid. There will be a full length version of this at some point (link will be added when it's uploaded) for those who want a closer look at the steps involved. I don't mind answering questions either to clarify anything.
