DARK AGE OF CAMELOT New Server Details Emerge 2022
Still will consider Ywain it's main, core server, updates may slow because they are now a small team and are working on a new server
-They've discussed a progression server or a classic version- a chance to play it like it used to be, or for everyone to start on an even playing field.
-Let community vote or decide when ready for the next expansion
-They communicated with the community to decide what to do exactly with this new server type and the idea of events and things that aren't possible on Ywain got brought up.
-Because it's a new server, they will be able to do some new things that wouldn't make much sense on Ywain.
-So think, a classic adjacent server : some aspects from certain expansions would be ommitted. Can we all say Trials of Atlantis gear?
-This will be a persistant server that retains the classic feel, but the endgame objectives may change as the server goes on.
-When server launches it will be all about getting to max level and getting into RvR out on the frontiers.
-So they've decided not a progression server per say, but one that retains a classic feel but does move through some newer content but leaving out others that they think in hindsight may have damaged the MMO
-1.2 through 1.6 is what they are defining as classic, so pre-Trials of Atlantis.
-So they are using that as a reference to what they want the new server to be like.
-There are some Quality of Life that will remain from DAOC today, they are going to tow a line of a classic feel but more quality of life. Known bugs now will be removed, and updates to UI will stay in. So they want it to be a classic server but more modern.
-The length of time it took to get to level 50 back then was MASSIVE, this is more of a thing that made sense back then, but wouldn't work today, so leveling will be sped up from the actual classic experience, but much slower than it is today to ensure the PvE leveling up experience is still there of grouping up and meeting people in your realm is still a big part of getting to 50.
-They want the challenge of the journey to still be there.
-The event component of this new server looks like this: Endgame invasions to invade another realm with objectives, so realm comes together to invade another realm, they would have things they would need to have in place to do this, a chance to take an enemy realm's trophies and place in their major city. They think this will encourage Realm pride and guild comraderie, an aspect that was very important in the early days of Dark Age of Camelot.
-There would be more events, this is just one example. They want other dynamic events that happen over time to keep everyone invested and excited.
-Progression is what made classic DAOC so good, so they want to ensure that the feeling and the meaning of progression is high on the new server.
TIMELINE: It has taken longer than they wanted to get this server ready. They are thinking Summer 2022 is still possible for by the end of summer for testing, so they can ensure the official launch is strong and stable. They are expecting a fairly large amount of players to come back or come to try out this legendary MMORPG. This test will also alow them to try out their ideas for the server and make sure it works and is fun. Depending on how this test goes, will decide how long before the server launches.
-They also promise better communication on updates for this server and details.
-There is also a storyline that goes along with this server too
-An idea like this has never been done before for any classic MMO
-Frontiers: There is a lot of people clamoring for Old Frontiers, however, the majority of community sample they have says that there are more advantages to PvP and the way keeps can be attacked and strategized, that they will be sticking with New Frontiers, but they are still struggling with which way to go for sure, but as of now, it is New Frontiers just because of all the advantages and extra gameplay opportunities that New Frontiers offers.
