Dark Age of Camelot in 2023 (Nostalgia Stream) (Quick-Cut)
1(09/17/2023) I started playing DAOC in 2003. For about 3-4 years I couldn't put this game down, it was my first real MMO addiction. Even after WoW came out and decimated the population, I stuck with it, as, for me, its lore, art style and combat mechanics were simply much more interesting, and much better designed. I quit the game cold-turkey by 2007 as I was going to college and wanted to focus on doing well there and being an "adult." Fast forward 16 years to now, and DAOC is STILL active (though, obviously with a small population).
I recently discovered that it's free to play now however, and so, I decided to load up the game once more, simply for nostalgia, to go explore all the old areas I used to spend so many hours in, hear all the sound effects, and the classic music of various locations, all of which is unchanged, exactly the way it was when I initially played. Logging in to the character selection screen and hearing the classic game music there truly made me feel like I just traveled back in time, haha!
The muscle memory and knowledge of skills necessary for PvPing in any sort of competent manner is totally gone however, so I didn't plan to try and relive that element of the game, though I did do some exploring around the frontier. For the most part, this stream is intended purely to be an exploration one, running around the realm's hotspot pve locations, early dungeons, world bosses, ToA artifact and master level locations, etc, just to reminisce about all the fun times that were had spending far, FAR too many hours in all those places.
