I've been playing games for over twenty years and one thing that's happened in relatively recent history is the rise of so called Free-to-play games.
Along with such games comes the Microtransaction shop. Somewhere you can pay real money to access in-game benefits.
In this video I discuss the phenomenon and how well and how badly it can be implemented through the medium of "Daves Scale of microtransaction Douchebaggery"
Ranging from 1, exploitative and cruel to 5, which is sunshine and rainbows.
I discuss two games I've played that employ microtransaction shops. One that does it well and another that does it poorly. Tribes Ascend and APB:Reloaded respectively.
Ofcourse there are better examples, and worse examples, but not only have I not played most of them, if I did any more examples the video would be much longer than it has any right to be.
