13The Final Countdown is a 1980 American science fiction war film about a modern nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that travels through time to the day before the December 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. Produced by Peter Douglas and Lloyd Kaufman (founder of Troma Entertainment) and directed by Don Taylor, the film contains an ensemble cast starring Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, James Farentino, Katharine Ross and Charles Durning.
This was the final film by Don Taylor. Kaufman also served as an associate producer and had a minor acting role.
The film was produced with the cooperation of the United States Navy's naval aviation branch and the United States Department of Defense. It was set and filmed on board USS Nimitz (CVN-68), filming operations of the modern nuclear warship, which had been launched in the early 1970s. The Final Countdown was a moderate success at the box office.
Grumman F-14 Tomcat
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an American carrier-capable supersonic, twin-engine, two-seat, twin-tail, variable-sweep wing fighter aircraft. The Tomcat was developed for the United States Navy's Naval Fighter Experimental (VFX) program after the collapse of the General Dynamics-Grumman F-111B project. The F-14 was the first of the American Teen Series fighters, which were designed incorporating air combat experience against MiG fighters during the Vietnam War.

The F-14 received its first of many major upgrades in March 1987 with the F-14A Plus (or F-14A+). The F-14A's TF30 engine was replaced with the improved F110-GE-400 engine. The F-14A+ also received the state-of-the-art ALR-67 Radar Homing and Warning (RHAW) system. Many of the avionics components, as well as the AWG-9 radar, were retained. The F-14A+ was later redesignated F-14B on 1 May 1991. A total of 38 new aircraft were manufactured and 43 F-14A were upgraded into B variants.[118][27] In the late 1990s, 81 F-14Bs were upgraded to extend airframe life and improve offensive and defensive avionics systems. The modified aircraft became known as F-14B (Upgrade)

F-14雄貓式戰鬥機（Grumman F-14 "Tomcat" Fighter）是美國海軍一款已退役的艦載戰鬥機，原設計為制空戰機，負責艦隊防空及長程攔截，擔綱以航空母艦為中心的艦隊防空任務，同時也是是美國海軍吸取越戰經驗後而設計的第一種戰機，特別著重近距纏鬥，有極佳的持續轉向能力；所以F-14同時擁有強大的長程超視距攻擊能力及極佳的近戰能力，其性能在當時有數項特點：
首架擁有同時應對多目標作戰能力的戰機，可以同時鎖定24個目標，並攻擊其中6個。
其專用的鳳凰長程空對空飛彈，射程達190km，自70年代至今在美軍中仍沒有其他空對空飛彈比得上[2] 。
首架備有資料連，能與同型友機分享測得的目標訊息的戰機。
首架俱有能自動調節至最佳升阻比後掠角的可變後掠翼戰機。
採用了可變後掠翼設計，不只使F-14在不同高度、空速也能有最佳升阻比，也使其能同時滿足低速航艦升降及超音速時機動的需要。F-14採雙發動機、雙尾翼設計，由於研發時技術所限需要兩個人操縱，為一雙座戰機。
及後加裝偵查莢艙等裝備後開始負責偵察、攻擊效果評估等任務。隨後因海軍沒有其他戰機能滿足作戰需要，在服役後期曾追加低空導航暨夜間紅外線標定筴艙，具備基本的精確對地攻擊能力。
F-14由美國格魯曼設計，首架F-14於1970年試飛，1974年服役，用以取代F-4幽靈式戰機，開始時負責美國航空母艦打擊群的防衛，自1994年開始有精確對地攻擊能力。海軍原打算為F-14升級以使能服役至2015年，但正值冷戰結束等因素，升級計劃被國防部及國會否決，並決定F-14的角色由原計劃只設計作取代A-6及A-7等對地攻擊機的F/A-18E/F超級大黃蜂式打擊戰鬥機暫代。在美國海軍服役32年後，F-14於2006年9月22日正式退役。
除美國海軍外，唯一擁有F-14的國家是伊朗，伊朗共接收了79架F-14，兩伊戰爭期間F-14有出色的戰績，外間估計即使缺乏原廠支援下，伊朗的F-14共擊落了160架伊拉克戰機，雖然伊拉克聲稱擊落了超過70架F-14，但外面估算實際只有約10架F-14被擊落，伊朗至今仍有F-14服役。
