Still a long way to go, but I've been brushing up on the way the game's campaign all slots together, complete with different gamemodes, highscores and challenges. I prepare a test island and send it off to two friends for their first impressions.

ALSO, please read this because I feel many people miss the point of what makes a bug a bug and why it's so difficult to avoid having them:

When you see a finished game you don't see all of the design decisions that were changed, cut or added during development which makes it seem obvious with hindsight how it should have been developed from the beginning.

Of course if I had known before that I was going to use the flag for this purpose, I'd have designed it differently. But I didn't, and I chose to use the flag at the time because I deemed it to be the simplest solution, given my knowledge of the game at that time. Would it have been worth redeveloping the camera pan part of the game instead? Who knows. A game is so interconnected it's often a lot easier just to botch a fix and to put up with the resulting bugs than to try and rip out a bit of it and to re-do it from scratch again, which can also lead to unexpected knock-on problems elsewhere.

I don't remember every bit of the game at once. When I'm developing a bit, let's say the debris effects, I familiarise myself with what's already there. I add to it, get it working, and then forget about how I did it until I need to look at it again. There's simply too much information to keep fresh in your mind all the time with a game that you're working on. You just get better at coping and prioritising bits as you make more of them.

There are a million ways of doing every bit of a game, all with their pros and cons. The invincibility thing was only an example of a resulting bug. It probably only took about 30 seconds to fix once I was aware of it. The problem was discovering the bug existed in the first place, and why it was occurring. Once again this video gives viewers a great deal of hindsight which makes everything seem obvious.
