A big change was made to the origins of Namor! The sub-mariner was introduced in Marvel comics in the 1930’s and was linked to being the protector of the mythical underwater city of Atlantis. However, in the movie they switched up his origins and aligned him with a different civilization. Instead, Namor’s kingdom is called Talocan, a place inspired by Aztec mythology. The reason for changing Atlantis was to lessen the similarities and make sure there were no comparisons to DC’s Aquaman, who is of course the King of Atlantis.
