We all know that Luigi has pretty much always shined in the ability department, but his older brother Mario suffers in this department from time to time.

While Mario has always been considered to be an all-around/balanced character throughout the Smash series, I find that his character abilities have gradually gotten worse overtime. Especially since his KO Power and Recovery were drastically nerfed even further in Melee and Brawl. Even his Tier List positions have gradually gotten worse over time. While Mario was considered, at one point, to be a High Tier character in both Smash 64 and Melee, he still wasn't nearly as good as how he was perceived to be back then. So, he ended up being an average "Joe" Mid-Tier type of character instead in Smash 64 and Melee. Smash 4 was definitely "The Moment" that Mario was waiting for (to finally be a good/decent character for once) especially since he was actually considered to be a Low/Bottom Tier character in Brawl for the first time in history.
