On the 24th November 1998, FIFA 99 was released in North America. Developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports, this is the sixth game in the FIFA series. This time around, the indoor mode was removed. In its place were two new leagues: the Primeira Liga from Portugal and the Belgian Pro League.

FIFA 99 instantly became a bestseller in the UK, knocking Tomb Raider III off the top spot. In only four months it had earned Platinum status for PlayStation.

It won numerous awards for Sports Game of the Year at the CNET Gamecenter Awards, Computer Gaming World’s Premier Awards and Gamespot’s Best & Worst 1998 Awards.

FIFA 99 was picked up in a charity shop in Wetherby. In an offer for 3 for £1 it also came with Rayman and Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey. Maybe these will enter the vault soon?
