This is video #009 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/zon694IerTQ
Heorot the fallen Celestrian heads southeast from Angel Falls to the first dungeon of the game, the Hexagon. He is trying to find some trace of Patty, a Stornway woman who was supposed to have arrived in Angel Falls by now. I recommend being around Level 6 with the Soldier's Sword.
Around Level 6, Heorot should be able to get to the Hexagon without any trouble (time index 1:02). After entering the ruins, he finds a stone inscription at the northern end of the entrance hall. This causes the ghost of a merchant to appear. When Heorot examines the ghost, the apparition guides him down a hall to the west. Heorot follows him to the northern end of the west hall (time index 2:04). On the ghost's advice, Heorot examines the statue, causing the stone with the inscription to move aside.
In the northern part of the entrance floor, Heorot finds a hallway leading east. At the end is a chest containing a Leather Shield (time index 3:03). The left stairway leads down to a blue chest (time index 3:18). The right-hand stairway leads down to the main part of B1 (time index 3:26).
Level B1 is where the enemies start appearing. Nothing too difficult, mostly Drackies and Bags o' Laughs. The only annoying thing about the Bags o' Laughs is their Weird Dance, which can sap a party member's MP. To the north, a stairway leads down to B2.
On Level B2 (time index 4:56), Heorot reaches Minstrel Level 7 (time index 5:33). Firespirits, Bodkin Archers, and Mecha-mynahs will start appearing down here.
There are three ways to go. He first heads northwest, where a red treasure chest contains a Feather Fan (time index 6:38). If he got the Soldier's Sword in Angel Falls, it's better than the fan. To the south, a red chest contains 210 Gold (time index 8:50). The northeast stairway leads to the northeast part of the dungeon.
In the central part of B1 (time index 9:48), the northwest path is broken, so the only way to go is northeast. While here, Heorot reaches Minstrel Level 8 (time index 11:52), where he learns Crack and gains 3 more Skill Points. With a cumulative 7 points in the Sword Skill, his attack power will be boosted by 10 while equipped with a sword. He also receives the 'Skilled Swordsman' accolade.
Blue scythe-wielding Spirits will start appearing here. In the northern corridor, Heorot can go west and south to find a blue treasure chest (time index 12:42).
In the room to the north (time index 12:52), Heorot can go northwest to find a red chest containing a Seed of Deftness (time index 13:03). I'm not sure if I said this before, but I recommend saving the Seeds for alchemy.
Up the stairs to the north, Heorot will find a woman whose leg is trapped under some rubble (time index 13:45). So this is Patty! Unfortunately, when the brave hero chooses to help her, a big beastie comes up. This is Hexagoon, the first boss of the game! When Patty says, "Watch your head," that's a clue about the upcoming fight.
Being the first boss of the game, the Hexagoon is not very threatening. At Level 7 to Level 8, this big guy will be a pushover. His most dangerous attack is probably bringing rubble down on the hero's head, but even that is not very damaging. The Heal spell and Medicinal Herbs will be more than enough to keep him healed up. If the hero has a Soldier's Sword and 7 points in the Sword Skill, the Hexagoon will go down in about a minute. The Hexagoon drops a Magic Beast Hide.
There is a scene with Patty after the battle (time index 16:02). She's lucky her leg or ankle didn't get broken, but then again, this IS an RPG. She and Heorot automatically leave the Hexagon, so there is no need to walk out. After a brief conversation, she heads off for Angel Falls. That is Heorot's next destination, as well.
Thanks for watching!
