So we had a power outage in the wee hours of the morning. Most of my computers where on a UPS sans one that just shutdown cleanly. Alas it looks like when the power came on there was a surge that went through the peripherals and the 5v line that hit one of my drives. Not sure but one of the heads bounced while it was running and caused a head crash. It seems to have gone into sleep mode there in after as the drive was not in use, until i woke up and started doing a little testing of PopOS by System76 and while i was fighting the drive i was installing onto i heard the most terrifying of noises coming from the machine beside me. CLICK CLICK CLICK. It eventually stopped and started whirring. it wasn't until the next day i realized the whirring was more of a grinding noise. then i saw my Project drive was set to read only while i was hunting for what drive might have failed. Pulled it out and tried to do some data Recovery to no avail. Took it apart to find the concentric rings of doom and loads of black powder everywhere. Dead Seagate drive is dead.
