Dwarf Fortress - Generating Worlds: Dwarf Fortress World Creation
192Let's generate a world in Dwarf Fortress! I am starting new and thought I would share the world creation process!
In this Dwarf Fortress video, I'll walk you through the World Generation process.
First we'll choose how long of a history it has, the number of civilizations and more. Next, we are presented with an overall look at the world continents and terrain. From their, we'll look at a 3 map view showing the local, regional and world views and we'll use these to determine where we might start.
Dwarf Fortress has a filtering system by which we can choose whether we are looking for shallow metal, deep metal, if we want a river in our area and more. Once filtered, the world is scanned for areas that match that criteria and we are presented with them by way of flashing green X's.
At this point, we move around the map looking at the local section trying to determine which of these filtered locations we like best. I like to look at things like elevation difference (I like variety) and how many trees are in the area.
Once ready, we Embark by choosing the skills of our Dwarves along with the equipment they will be bringing along. Finally, I bring up Stonesense to show you the 3D view of the area.
