This trailer was created by one of our artists (both of whom I’m eternally grateful for for their dedication to the project and their consistent and quality work), and here’s her Instagram handle if you would like to feast your eyes on more amazing art: hanaryu_u.

Eclipse is a top-down 2.5D action-packed dungeon-crawler game that incorporates Norse mythology and astrological elements into its gameplay, art, and story. In Eclipse, players play as Skoll & Hati in one body, fighting their way through the snowy forests of Midgard to ultimately defeat Odin and bring about Ragnarok. The player starts the game as a black wolf, Skoll, and a white wolf, Hati, combined in one body. Throughout the game, the player will have to split and merge the two wolves repeatedly to defeat enemies. In the lore, Skoll represents hatred while Hati epresents mischief. Here’s the unique selling proposition I wrote for our game concept document.

Our game has a unique take on the enemy health system, as instead of a traditional health bar we have a series of patterns for the player to match. Unlike a traditional hack-and-slash game, the player has to put themselves in harm’s way to attack, since their only form of attack leaves a part of them vulnerable to enemy counterattacks. While most action games focus on aiming and dodging, ours has a slight hint of moment-to-moment strategy too, as the player has to decide within a split second the most optimal path to take to corral the correctly coloured enemies into an easy multikill. Our game’s UI and art are styled like paper, which is quite rare to find in the market, especially for action games where a more flashy or pixelated style is often chosen. We want to follow the path of games like Cuphead, an action game which has a unique nineteenth century cartoon art style, where art is able to immerse the player into the game world because of its originality, beauty, and contrast to real life.
