Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture tells the story of the inhabitants of a remote English valley who are caught up in world-shattering events beyond their control or understanding. Featuring a beautiful, detailed open-world and a haunting soundtrack, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is non-linear storytelling at its best.
Developed by The Chinese Room, the studio responsible for the hauntingly beautiful Dear Esther, this tale of how people respond in the face of grave adversity is a non-linear, open-world experience that pushes innovative interactive storytelling to the next level.
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is based around six characters, each telling their own story, and each connected to landmarks in the world that evolve as the game progresses.The game takes place in a village in Shropshire during the apocalypse.
The player's objective is to explore and try to discover how and why everyone in the village has disappeared.
* Mysterious floating orbs of light swim around the air and lead the player to scenes made up of other human-shaped lights, which re-enact various previously occurring events.
* Strange voices haunt the radio waves as uncollected washing hangs listlessly on the line.
* The televisions are tuned to vacant channels. Above it all, the telescopes of the Observatory point out at dead stars and endless darkness.
Only you remain behind to try and unravel the mystery, eventually providing all of the puzzle pieces to the game's main event, the "rapture".
The developers were inspired by British apocalyptic science fiction of the 1960s and 1970s, like John Christopher's The Death of Grass and A Wrinkle in the Skin, John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids and Charles Eric Maine's The Tide Went Out.
