Junk DNA was widely (but now shrinking) to be considered great evidence for evolution because they account for the pseudogenes, retrotransposon (said it wrong), and ERVs since allegedly they're non-functional and were once active in the evolution time scale. However, scientific studies reveal that such conclusions are ignorant and show a lack of understanding of what junk DNA actually do.
