Express For Success - 'the making of' Interviews with participants
Wild at Heart Community Arts and Aspect launch a brand new animation created by adults with autism for World Autism Awareness
Wild at Heart Community Arts worked with seven adults with autism at Aspect in Melbourne, to create Express for Success, a brilliant new short animation film to promote understanding of people who live on the Autism Spectrum.
Express for Success is a 5 minute animated film in which the makers tell of the challenges they face in living independently through the experience of catching public transport.
The animation was created over 10 weekly workshops, led by facilitator Phil Heuzenroeder and animator Nick Kallincos. The characters in the film were developed and made by the participants based on their own life experiences. They tell of coping with fear of social interaction, sensory overload and dealing with other people's misunderstandings.
The animation is accompanied by a short “Making Of” documentary that gives the viewer insight into the storytellers’ lives and how the animation was created.
The project was designed and run by Wild At Heart Community Arts in partnership with Aspect, with generous support from the Australia Council for the Arts.
