This review was created when I was starting to dip my toes back into reviewing video games after 3 years of nothing.

I took a three year hiatus because I was trying to focus on getting a job, and living with my mother and two siblings on top of that made it difficult to find time to do the reviews without interruptions, so I just stopped and changed my focus.

I created the review in June 2011 but didn't upload it because... frankly, I didn't like it. I shelved it until Christmas that year where I published it exclusively to Facebook. My audience for FB was all my friends, so I didn't have to worry about any strangers writing horrible things in the comments.

I had zero intentions of releasing this episode of Classix Review onto YouTube. My review of Streets of Rage 2 (created 3 days after my review of Fade to Black) was intended to be its replacement, but even that didn't make it to YouTube until the same year as Fade to Black.

I decided to stick to Facebook for my reviews for a while. I even rereleased some of my old episodes of Classix Review, giving them a small tweak and changing the intro, calling it "Classix Review Retro"

Once I started getting back into reviewing games again, I published my review of Streets of Rage 2 to YouTube and still had zero intention of publishing this.

After I got more confident again, I decided to say "fuck it" and published my review of Fade to Black to coincide with my review of Gears of War. So, despite the fact it was created in 2011, and published to YouTube after Streets of Rage 2, it still counts as Classix Review Episode 9 as it was the true followup to my last Classix Review episode from 2008, so, naturally, this is Classix Review: Episode 9.


Fade to Black is an action-adventure game developed by Delphine Software International and published by Electronic Arts. It is the sequel to the 1992 video game Flashback. The game was released for DOS and PlayStation; planned Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn versions were cancelled.
