Crimson Skies was a franchise developed by Jordan Weisman and Dave McCoy, the developers behind the Mechwarrior and Shadowrun universes. Luckily the intellectual property has been reacquired so you might just see a Crimson Skies reboot or sequel!
The premise is ingenious. In an alternate past, the United States broke apart into independent factions motivated by national pride and the disagreement over Prohibition. With conflict and contraband comes pirates, and in Crimson Skies these bold corsairs outfit their propeller fighters to hijack blimps, search for treasure in contested lands, and engage in dogfights with other dieselpunk aircraft. Its the perfect combination of altered history, romanticism, swashbuckling, and vintage airplanes.
