Fallout: Blind Run: The Brotherhood and Mission Failure (6 of 6)
Seeing as I can't return anywhere as I have a day left, I try to go all the way down to the bottom of the glow but without proper armour and enough chems I die due to radiation poisoning.
I consider this run dead as I still don't know where the water chip is and it's not worth salvaging this blind run so I end it here.
I do make a second attempt at it, see Fallout, take 2 for my revenge.
Story:
Okay. Essentially find the water chip, save your vault and then learn there are mutants that must be killed otherwise everyone will be dead. It's nice that there are different factions and group with different objectives as it sets the world in motion.
Characters:
There seems to be an abundance of unique characters, but it feels linear in that once you've done a quest with them you rarely need to see them again unless they are a merchant. So you don't really get character growth. I do like the fact the player character can say some dumb shit though.
Gameplay:
Definitely think a tutorial or help menu should be somewhere in this game. It took me way too long to figure out things like using dynamite or being able to reload without accessing the inventory, or understanding how they worked like the lockpick. Some things were frustrating like the force fields in the facility and dynamite seeming being the only way to get through it.
Some of the skills seemed useless (looking at you outdoorsman) and the majority of the traits or perks don't really seem to help, although would be fun to muck around with on easier playthroughs. The turn-based combat is okay, there is a decent variety of weapons as well. Feels a bit grindy for money or experience though late game.
I did like the time limit on finding the water chip, gave some urgency and gave a sense of responsibility and tension.
Music:
Would have liked some more music, especially to create a bit of paranoia or a feeling of isolation, considering you're running around against many potential enemies.
Other:
Nice to see so many pieces of the original survive into the later games like the death claws, stimpaks and radiation sickness. Holds up decently for its age I think. But I can't see too many replays occurring unless you've got a specific goal in mind.
Overall: 6/10
