FE 12 Maniac Iron Man (No commentary/Bad ending)
May the spirit of Palla be with us!
I was really not focusing on the game until chapter 3 and I didn't really prepare for it (only one vulnerary on chris, no forged weapon to 1 round dracos, etc.) and I staight up lost Palla...
I got insane Luck afterwards and Chris dodged 2 lethal hits in chapter 3. I really didn't want to play this whole game without Palla (again... I have problems keeping her alive apparently) and I didn't play well at all until chapter 4, where Chris again dodged a lethal hit somehow! I seriously never got this lucky in any FE, and I was somehow able to complete this run
(I pussied out on the true ending though, no idea on how to kill Medeus reliably unless I feed lots of kills and obviously the chapter 21 stat boosters to Marth and I also had no idea on how to beat chapter 20x honestly... gotta have a plan next time, whenever that is, with synaptic drive coming out in less than a month) .
I'm pretty sure Palla is so good, that she was able to save Chris from dying, even 2 chapters after she already died.
Also I'm pretty sure, that feeding all stat boosters to Sirius, not forging any effective weapons aside from the dragonpike, making Arran a Bishop (yeah, sucks for him) and all that is less than optimal, but even without Palla you can still get away with that on Maniac (maybe that was just because of how fast my chris was though).
I love how FE12 is so transparent, that you don't spent time going into menus to check weapons, you don't check for skills, you just get everything you need to know in a single screen. And because of how predictable the AI is, you can always plan out exactly how a turn will go (unless you dodge twice or sth...), hit rates are extremely high, because of how avoid and weapon rank bonuses work, even against weapon triangle and there might be characters like Arran, Sirius and Michalis with extremely bad Luck, but I actually appreciate it, because the AI will always prioritize being able to kill with a possible crit to the point, where units with crit move before units that just deal dmg, even if they are lower in the unit order (actually getting crit suck, but you probably have the Potion and lunatic stat boosters). I still think, that the Ambush reinforcements are fair. You have no chance of fighting them the turn they appear, but you aren't supposed to, you just have to hurry in those chapters. The reinforcements only get you if you play slowly or try to gring off of them. (aside from chapter 12, but that one can be blocked if you want and you can skip the last zone entirely, like I did.) You never have to fight the reinforcements in this game, but I see how people playing their first run on maniac (me) might get screwed over by them, but on hard they hardly pose a threat, as does everything in the game. This is probably the most predictable FE, but even so you have to focus and check stats etc. or Palla will die (And getting the Potion REALLY helps) and what I'm getting at is, that this game has just so much flow to it, and it has so much speed that you can complete it "casually" in 5 hours, while taking breaks etc. while maintaining so much complexity that no two runs will look the same, and there are so many weird "builds" you can do, like Bishop Arran, or dead Palla... that it has pretty much infinite replay value (as does every FE), while still having so much difficulty, and so many options to make it even harder, so that reclassing, stat boosting, AI manipulating, etc. becomes mandatory and makes the game more interesting. (no Potion/no Stat Boosters/0% Growths if you hack it, but that goes for every FE/Just Lunatic Reverse is a decent challenge honestly) And I also love, how every character has his own nische, there are obviously bad characters like Bantu, but even he has the mage stone on maniac and therefore some uses.
Holy shit I love this Game waaaaaaay too much, but I even love the supports! I never unlocked any supports in the GBA games, because unlocking them sucks, fates and awakening have pretty badly written characters (just get one trope, like "edgelord", one quirk like "he is scared of women" and then insert a backstory)
The older games have no "supports", but even so there are characters like FE5 Ilios with him literally hating himself so much for being a commoner and with him always being told that his heritage is making him worth less as a human, so much so that he ended up fighting in a war, only to become the same type of noble, that always treated him badly, and he continues to become the same type of asshole, there is most of the FE4 cast, but none of them are fleshed out properly aside from the MC's. The Supports in this Game are the same as FE9, which is the best and characters like Arran for example are just well written.
The more I play it, the more I like FE12.
