Battle Music plays such a prominent role in many video games, but within the Final Fantasy franchise it's become legendary. And this is, in-part, thanks to the role of Nobuo Uematsu, who composed countless battle themes and boss themes from Final Fantasy I, through to more recent iterations like Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X.
Uematsu isn't the only composer to have composed battle music though, as others like Shimomura, Hamauzu and Sakimoto have also contributed. And they've all sought to utilise battle music in new ways as they hope to drive the player on in epic battles.
And that's what we're going to be covering today. How we got from Battle Scene in Final Fantasy I on the NES, through to Hellfire in Final Fantasy XV and the the copious amounts of evolutions we've seen around how battle music has been implemented within the Final Fantasy franchise.
We hope you enjoy the video!
