The Watara Supervision, also known as the Quickshot Supervision, Hartung SV-100, Travell Mate or Electrolab, depending on the countries it retailed in, surfaced in 1992 as a bargain basement alternative to the Nintendo Gameboy. Despite an initial retail price of $49.99 meant to undercut the GameBoy at $89.99, it failed to gather any traction, and faded into obscurity almost as quickly as it arrived.
It came in two design versions: the first was a rectangular design that more than slightly resembled the iconic Nintendo Game Boy, and the second was a slightly more ergonomic, tilt able variant.
As would be expected from a failed console, the library of games for the Supervision is fairly small, due in part to a lack of third party support or good licences. In fact, Watara made most of the games themselves, or to budget third party developers… and it shows.
I have painstakingly played through every title the Watara Supervision has to offer – so you don’t have to – in order to find out if any of these games are at all worth playing. The short answer is, well, no. However there are a handful of games that stand out to me as the least awful, or at least didn’t make me want to take gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon.
So without further ado, this is Five of the Best – uh – Well, Sort of, Watara Supervision Games.
