You may not have heard of his name before, but few people in Games Journalism have impacted gaming news and YouTube more than Alex Macris.
Alex Macris is the founder of the gaming news site, The Escapist.
He was banished from the site following 2014's GamerGate, in which Macris wrote that game journalist shouldn't automatically assume gamers as being toxic. For this advice, he was ostracized from the industry, his site canceled, and pushed out of the media game.
He is the president and creator of Ascendant, a tabletop and comics series these days.
Now he sits down with Pete to share what really happened at the Escapist and why he has low hopes for journalism today. We also go through his career, his work as a writer, and what he expects for nerdery in the near future.
Sponsored by Baen Books & Young Voices. CultureScape is the show that interviews the creators and influencers that built nerd culture.
