14Freedom Fighters, originally titled Freedom: The Battle For Liberty Island or Freedom: Soldiers of Liberty, is a 2003
third-person shooter video game available for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. It was developed by IO Interactive, using a modified version of Glacier engine and published by Electronic Arts.
The PlayStation 2 version in Europe was published by IO Interactive and by 2020, it was re-released on Steam. The game is set in an alternate history and the player takes the role of Christopher Stone, a plumber-turned American Resistance movement leader who fights against the Red Army that invades and occupies New York City in the present time.

ABOUT THE GAME
◼You’ll take on the role of Chris Stone, a hard-working plumber, who must rise through the ranks of the resistance to prove himself as a charismatic leader. Throughout the campaign, you’ll travel to various locations across the city and complete interconnected missions where your actions in one level affect the battles in another. You’ll liberate supplies, scavenge weapons and use the ‘recruit and command’ system to grow the resistance and lead your squad of up to 12 freedom fighters into strategic conflicts.
◼Command a single soldier or your entire squad to scout ahead, defend an area or follow your lead. Be tactical and take the fight to the invaders. They took your freedom. It’s time to take it back.
“Freedom Fighters” was released worldwide on all major platforms in October 2003. On April 6, 2004 Eidos UK revealed plans for the sequel. Eidos announced it would distribute the sequel in the first half of its financial year 2006, which would mean the latter part of 2005. However IO Interactive announced development of a new intellectual property, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, casting the future of a Freedom Fighters sequel in doubt. In late 2007 a representative of IO said in an interview about the upcoming Kane & Lynch: Dead Men that a sequel for Freedom Fighters was still on the company's 'to-do' list. In 2020, the game was Re-Released on Steam.
GAME ENGINE
◼Glacier is a proprietary in-house game engine developed for the Hitman series, Freedom Fighters, the Kane & Lynch series and Mini Ninjas. Glacier supports DLSS,XeSS and FSR simultaneously. The engine supports ray tracing
in Hitman 3. Eidos-Montréal licensed Glacier for their own in-house engine, Dawn Engine.

IO Interactive A/S (IOI) is a Danish video game developer based in Copenhagen, best known for creating and developing the Hitman and Kane and Lynch franchises. IO Interactive's most recent game is Hitman 3, which was released in January 2021.
