8Funko, the manufacturer of the popular Funko Pop Vinyls line, is reportedly sending at least $30 million worth of idle stock to a landfill due to the overstocking of warehouses. According to Kotaku, the company announced during an earnings call that it has so much inventory sitting in its warehouses that it's more financially viable to dispose of $30 to $36 million worth of stock than to store it any longer. Funko's CEO, Brian Mariotti, stated that one distribution center was so full that the company had to rent shipping containers to hold the excess stock. With a vast range of characters and franchises, including Marvel, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and more, Funko has been producing new lines of Pop Vinyls at a rapid pace. As a result, the company has accumulated an enormous amount of unsold stock, leading to the current dilemma.
