5Once upon a time there was a game company who made software about sporting events and they came up with the idea of making a handheld gaming system. They couldn't afford to make it themselves so they brought it to the giant video game company who would put their own name on it and sell it. But the giant video game hardware company was dieing and though there were interesting features and innovations with their handheld system, the affordable system from across the seas crushed them. Both the software company and the hardware company were crippled by this failure and vanished soon afterward.
As they tried to find something that would make people buy their handheld, the hardware giant saw that the software company had a game that looked a bit like the most popular game they had made in years. So they forced the software company to change the game's name and make it the third game in that series.
Which is how a time travel themed maze explorer became Gauntlet 3. At least in America.
