Get Your Fingers Ready for Licking – KFC Is Bringing an 11 Course Fine Dining Degustation to Sydney
Here’s a sentence we never thought we’d write on Broadsheet: KFC is making a foray into fine dining. For three nights. from April 1–3. it’ll offer an 11 course degustation created by Nelly Robinson. owner and chef at Nel in Surry Hills. Yes. it begins on April Fool’s Day. no it’s not a prank (we checked). Robinson has taken the Colonel’s most famous menu items and turned them into highfalutin dishes. with the signature theatricality he’s known for. A potato and gravy fan? On the tasting menu. that’ll take shape as a gravy candle with a potato bun for dipping once the candle melts. The Colonel’s famous Twisters are given a zhush with pearl barley risotto. sun dried tomato. pumpkin and Chicken Tenders. And popcorn chicken is paired with celeriac soup. mushroom gnocchi and basil – and this is degustation dining. so of course it’s topped with edible flowers. And in that ultimate sign of degustation dining as a show of status. KFC’s original recipe drumsticks come sprinkled in gold. Have a thing for the Colonel? The tasting menu gives you the chance to lick his face. Chicken. tomato. lettuce and pepper mayo are artfully stencilled on a plate in the shape of old mate’s head and body. Each to their own. Other menu items include wings cooked over charcoal and nuggets of KFC’s chocolate mousse dipped in nitrogen. The degustation will happen at a secret venue in Alexandria. and will be served with matching wines. It’s $75 a head. but all profits go to The Black Dog Institute. Reachout Australia and Whitelion. To nab a table you’ll need to tell KFC which of its dishes you reckon is worth a “la di da degustation”. The KFC degustation runs from April 1–3. with two sittings each day at 4.45pm and 8.15pm.
