ooooops.

turns out the solution was to move my desk a half inch to the left. the fan sits atop the computer tower, which sits on the floor adjacent to the desk, so the vibrations from the fan were travelling along the legs and into my mic stand, and thus into my mic.

should be fixed, but I may have to work on rearranging things a bit, or finding a less mechanical method of keeping my cpu cool.
