TRANSCRIPT:
ON THE WARRIORS’ PLAY IN THE SECOND HALF:
“Well, we had a lot more energy and determination in the second half. I thought the first half we got behind and hung our heads a little bit and in the second half we fought. We fought like crazy. We got back in the game and just couldn’t quite pull it off.”
ON WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR DEFENSIVE MOMENTUM EARLIER IN THE MONTH:
“I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know. I think we made a jump in our improvement on defense three weeks ago. Early in the season we were really struggling to guard. Our defense hasn’t been as good the last week or two. The second half was good. We were much more aggressive, but when you are not getting stops it’s really hard to sustain any momentum.”
ON WHAT TRIGGERED THE DEFENSIVE EFFORT IN THE SECOND HALF:
“Just energy and aggression. Guys were getting after it. The bench was up and the crowd was getting into it and that gave us momentum.”
ON WHAT A YOUNG TEAM LEARNED FROM TONIGHT’S GAME:
“I think they learned that it’s a long game and that there is lots of time to comeback. At halftime, we were down 18 and we were sort of lifeless and we got back into the game pretty quickly in the third quarter. That’s a good lesson for young players in this league. It’s a really long game and you have to stay with it.”
ON THE GROWTH HE’S SEEN FROM MARQUESE CHRISS THIS SEASON:
“Marquese has been really good on both ends. I thought he was really fantastic tonight. He’s so athletic. He runs the floor well, he’s a shot blocker and a good rebounder. I think he’s gotten better defensively. When we got him in training camp he was frequently out of position and now he’s found himself in better spots defensively. He’s picked up better habits and offensively he’s a pretty good passer. He’s pretty good in the dribble hand-off game and he’s got a nice feel offensively. I think he’s a good player.”
ON THE STATUS OF ERIC PASCHALL’S HIP:
“It tightened on him and for precautionary reasons we kept him out. Rick Cellebrini (Director of Sports Medicine and Performance) is not too concerned.”
ON KEVON LOONEY’S GAME TONIGHT:
“We played almost everybody in the first half and we just couldn’t find a rhythm and we just decided to stay with Willie (Cauley-Stein) on (Mitchell) Robinson when he came in. We decided if we found a group that played well, we were going to stay with them. That’s why Loon and Jacob (Evans III) didn’t see action in the second half. It was just because the other guys were playing well.”
