The Honda Civic Type R: defying logic in the faces of rear-wheel-drive coupes and all-wheel-drive sedans since 1997. If there ever is a definite example of a "hot hatch", then this first-generation Civic Type R fits the bill.

[Description (based in-game)]
Heralded as the "Miracle Civic," the sixth-generation model made its appearance in 3-door-hatchback and 4-door "Ferio" trim, each model bigger and more spacious than ever before. The new car stretched 4180 mm from bumper to bumper, 1695 mm in width and 1375 mm in height (the SiR-II was slightly shorter). There were four engines available: a 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter SOHC inline-4, a 1.5-liter SOHC inline-4 with VTEC and the potent 1.6-liter DOHC VTEC inline-4. The latter example was by far the choice for enthusiasts. It pumped out 125 kW and 156.8 Nm. Things got even better in 1997 when Honda added a Type R into the Civic mix, joining the NSX and Integra as the only models to get an "R" model.

For the Civic Type R, Honda engineers performed mechanical surgery to the 1.6-liter motor by incorporating lightweight camshafts, custom pistons, an enhanced rotation rate and port polishing. As a result, the revitalized four cylinder pumped out a hearty 136 kW, making it faster than many comparably priced sports cars of its day. Honda's chassis engineers ensured that the suspension and body were capable of handling the extra power; the result of their labors was arguably the best-handling front-wheel-drive car on the planet. It didn't take long for people to take notice, and before long, Civic Type R's were screaming around racetracks all over the world.
