Hornby Railways R088 | Stanier Class 4P 2-6-4T Tank Engine | LMS 2345 | OO Gauge | Review | HD
Here is my review of the Hornby Railways R088, that is the 2-6-4T Stanier Class 4P Steam Tank Engine in the LMS Black and Marron bands livery. This model train was originally released back in around1980 so its about the same age as I am but its in very good condition for its age. I have always wanted to do a review of one of these on the channel but never got round to doing it until now.
The model is great for its age and there is a glue mark where it has been repaired in the past by a previous owner. The model is a bit rough running as sometimes the value gear locks up and sometimes it has to be pressed in to get it free. I don't know much about these models to be honest as I do diesel and electric but I have mutual respect for steam trains as well.
That said and once I got it running. The performance was fine after I gave it a good run, so maybe that is what the model needed. It pulled the 8 freight cars with no slipping and there are no traction tires on this model either. I know it is a passenger locomotive but at the time I did this video. I had no LMS passengers to use with it. That will change when I cover another LMS Steam Locomotive model in OO gauge that will be on the channel in November.
This is a nice model train to come from Hornby Railways and despite the fickle valve gear, I would still recommend getting one. I am going to be reviewing more retro OO gauge model trains as well as train sets from the 1980's and 1990's.
