Hotshot Racing (Xbox One) | Random Races #1
1Developed by Sumo Digital and Lucky Mountain Games and published Curve Digital in 2020, it's Hotshot Racing for the Xbox One. It's also available for the PS4 (PlayStation 4), PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Hotshot Racing provides an amazing 60fps (fps = frames per second) 90s throwback to 3D polygon racing games like Virtua Racing, Daytona USA, SEGA Super GT (SCUD Race in Europe), Over Rev, and Ridge Racer.
The game features the following game modes:
Grand Prix - A four race series, winner determined by point standings.
Single Race - Including four types of events; Arcade (8 cars on track circuit racing with a checkpoint timer up to 7 laps), Cops & Robbers, Drive Or Explode (maintain speed and pass checkpoints to avoid exploding), and Barrel Barrage (circuit racing with explosive barrels).
Time Trial - Put down the best lap times.
Online - Typical online multiplayer.
There are 20 tracks with four location themes (Coast, Desert, Jungle, Mountain) that can also be played in Mirrored mode, and 8 characters with different personalities and from different countries (Alexa, USA | Aston, UK | Xing, China | Keiko, Japan | Marcus, Jamaica | Viktor, Russia | Mike, USA | Toshiro, Japan) with each having four different cars (32 customizable cars in total). Every car for each character has four different presets (Balanced, Acceleration, Speed, Drift) with every car having different performance specs I might add.
Also the game's three difficulty option of Normal, Hard, and Expert determines the top speed and CPU difficulty setting. Normal being the slowest and easier, Hard being middle ground, and Expert being the fastest and most difficult.
Do beware that Hotshot Racing uses "Rubber Band AI", so think about that when it comes car/track selection and the difficulty setting.
The Arcade Mode gameplay is like a mixture of SEGA Super GT, Ridge Racer, and The Fast And The Furious where drifting, drafting, and nitro comes into a crucial role. You can refill a meter underneath the speedometer on the in-game HUD that has four bars. You can refill each bar by drifting and slipstreaming (aka drafting) other AI cars. Nitrous can only be used when one bar is on the on the meter You can use and refill the Nitrous as much as you want, but just keep an eye on that meter because it holds up to four nitrous boost bars and trust me you'll want to use them as they definitely provide a speed boost. It can play a role if you want to stay in the lead and win.
