The purpose of this video, simply put, is to demonstrate that allowing denser housing doesn't destroy "neighborhood character" like many fear it does. We'll explore the housing stock of my Cities: Skylines city, Cabrillo.

Cities across America are deep in a worsening housing affordability crisis. But whenever advocates correctly contend that we need to build lots of dense infill housing to fight sprawl and climate change along with the housing crisis, homeowners turn out in droves to protest new housing and "preserve neighborhood character."

There's something crucial to understand, though; upzoning single-family neighborhoods means legalizing cute fourplexes and cottage courts, not building big highrises in the middle of suburban neighborhoods. Missing Middle Housing, as it's called, can be totally compatible with existing neighborhood character while providing more affordable homes for new residents.
