For whatever reason, a lot of frozen games don't honor alt-f4, and they aggressively retake control of your screen when you try to switch to other programs or close it via pressing the Windows (⊞) key. In the past, you'd have to restart your computer to escape, but I've found that every frozen game can be bypassed with this trick. Hope it helps!
