How to Create Partition in Windows 10 & Windows 11 | Create New Drive [Solution]
To partition a hard drive in Windows means to section off a part of it and make that part available to the operating system.
In other words, a hard drive isn't useful to your operating system until it's partitioned. Additionally, it's not available to you to store files on until you format it (which is another, just as simple process).
When you get your hands on a new hard disk or solid state drive, the first thing you have to do is partition it. That means that you must create one or more partitions so that you can then store data. Although you could use third-party tools for this task, the Windows operating system includes tools that can handle partitioning disks just as well. So here are two ways to create a partition on any drive (HDD, SSD, etC) in Windows, using only built-in tools:
Ever wish you could split your hard drive in two? Maybe you want to encrypt a portion of your drive for sensitive files, or maybe you want do dual-boot Linux alongside Windows. It's actually easy to do, and all the necessary tools are built right into Windows.
This process is called partitioning your drive, and in fact, your drive is probably partitioned out of the box: the majority of the drive is occupied by the C: partition, but most PCs also have a small "Recovery" partition that can help repair your system if something goes wrong. If you aren't using all the space on your C: drive, here's how to divide it into multiple partitions for other uses.
