If you can try to clear up all the raid beams in the wild area first (some report that having other Gmax in the field or promotional pokemons can prevent Gmax from spawning, it's a bit riskier to do it AFTER you find the shiny)
I recommend reading the original reddit post, the more you understand the less mistakes you make! (I don't do the initial phase - it's only necessary if you think the shiny is within the first 13 pokemons, very unlikely so it is simpler to just do the loop phase)
