How to Have Fun in Pathfinder 2e: Design Philosophy & You!
Hello Travelers & Tourists!
Welcome to a simple, yet surprisingly deep, discussion of the question:
"How do I have fun with Pathfinder 2e?"
A few months ago, while my arm was injured, I started a series exploring "How to Have Fun with..." different classes in Pathfinder 2e. I explored what different classes brought to the gaming table & gave advice on how to get the most out of them.
But then, a though occurred to me:
You can have the same conversation about the game as a whole!
Pathfinder 2e is a game that has some evident strengths, but that also comes with a few challenges that can make it hard for players to approach. As someone who truly enjoys this game, I wanted to dig into what players & GMs can do to really get to the heart of what is great about this game.
[Side Note: I am not the Fun Police. I'm not here to tell you how to have a good time. If you're enjoying your game, then congratulations, you're doing it right! This video isn't about telling you exactly how to play your game.]
Essentially, I believe that approaching this game with two "mindsets" can really help you get to the golden aspects of the system. In particular, Pathfinder 2e is a game that assumes Teamwork as an essential tactic - so you should plan to work as a team with the other players. Additionally, Paizo developed a complex game on purpose. Complexity is a deliberate choice that comes with a learning curve, but that also supports deeper, tactical, & nuanced game play. As such, approaching that complexity deliberately, & exploring the options it gives systematically, will help you discover what this game does best!
