Mahalo expert Jaala Pickering shows you how to make spoon pilgrims for the Thanksgiving holidays.

You can learn how to make spoon pilgrims from ordinary plastic spoons and construction paper. These
decorations can be used instead of placecards at a children's table during Thanksgiving dinner. The project is appropriate for all craft skill levels since it only involves cutting and gluing.

To start making this craft project, you need googly eyes, scissors and a glue stick.

You can use them to trace out your shapes on the paper.

Step 1: Make the Male Pilgrim
---------------------------------------------------------------------

First, cut out a small black rectangle, which will be the suit for the male pilgrim. Spread glue down the center of the piece of paper. Next, stick it to the back of the spoon handle. The round part of the spoon represents the face of the character. After you have attached the suit, cut out a small square from the leftover black construction paper. Now, trim that square so that it looks like a pilgrim's hat. Paste the finished shape on top of the spoon. Cut the shirt collar from the white paper and attach it under the head.

Step 2: Make the Female Pilgrim
---------------------------------------------------------------------

To make the female pilgrim, cut a tapered, rectangular shape from the brown construction paper. Attach the shape to the back of the spoon with glue. Make a collar for this character like the one in the first step. Next, decorate the edge of the dress with a strip of white construction paper. Finally, cut out a white, round hat shape and paste it to the top of the spoon.

Step 3: Attach the Eyes
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Smear glue on the back of each googly eye. Make sure to spread it evenly. Next, stick them to the spoon beneath the characters' hats. For extra variety across characters, use a package of googly eyes that has different colors.
